The CAMU Liner | The CAMU Liner |
|
The new CAMU uses state-of-the-art environmental technology in its containment of soils. With more than two million cubic yards of dirt expected to be deposited into it, Basic Remediation Company (BRC) will be using a sophisticated liner system to ensure that the contaminated dirt stays in place and does not contaminate the surrounding area. It will be lined with several layers of protective materials such as geosynthetics and geomembranes. Think of the CAMU as a multi-layered sandwich with each layer placed on top of the other. Every layer is a vital component of the overall containment system. After the CAMU is constructed, a geosynthetic clay liner will be placed in the CAMU as a buffer. Next, is where the contaminated soil will be deposited. Then, more clean soil will be placed in the CAMU. On top of this soil, there will be another geosynthetic clay liner. The next layer is the geomembrane layer. Then, there will be a geocomposite layer. On top of all this, will be clean, native soil. When full, the CAMUwill be capped and monitored per NDEP and EPA requirements. It was designed to blend in with the desert environment. Click here for the CAMU liner diagram.
